Camera Pron
I dig the look of this footage.  The camera is cheap and toy like.   It’ll remind you of a Holga or an 8mm.   Check out the review on “Four Corners Dark” Review : the digital harinezumi 2

Hmmm.  Drags its heels.  But it’s got a nice intro.  Kinda reminds me of Chris Cunningham’s work. Mathew Barney too.

Happy Holidays 2009
Sunday morning. Cereal. Playstation3.  Beating Modern Warfare 2 & Assassin’s Creed 2, back to back.  Yeah, it doesn’t get any better.   So glad to have some free time on my hands. This weekend, I organized… everything.  My work desk.  My photography gear. My presentations. My finances.  I cleaned my house.  I cleaned my room. I cleaned up my iTunes.  I added a bunch of apps...

Howard
My brother was kind enough to host the family for Thanksgiving this year. While everyone was in the kitchen cooking, I snuck out to the living room to shoot a quick video of his cat, Howard, as a surprise thank you gift. Thanks bro!

Time Lapse of the Mac World Cover Shoot
This video is awesome.  Check out the cool stop motion “camera moves”.   hah.  It also makes me want to shoot photos real bad. Look at all the toys. lol I’ve been shooting a lot of still life photography lately. I like it because it simplifies photography down to its core elements: Subject. Camera. Light.  That’s it!  There’s something nice about that. Ok....

P.S.22 x Jay-Z / RiRi / Yeezy
Woah… My old grade school, P.S.22, has a popular youtube video!??!? That’s so cool.  And lol @ the S.I. accents.  Hahahah. I remember sitting in those auditorium chairs.   They made us sing the traditional school song which went: (ahem) “PS 22… give a helping hand…  brotherhood and future good, peace throughout the land.” lol

"Ways of Seeing"
Have you ever revisited your childhood bedroom or an old grade school classroom? These places tend to look a lot smaller than you remember them, but they haven’t physically changed in size.  So why do they look different?  The video above claims that you don’t see with your eyes, you see with your mind. Sight is created through associations between what your eye senses and your...

R.I.P. Irving Penn
“Irving Penn, one of the 20th century’s most prolific and influential photographers of fashion and the famous, whose signature blend of classical elegance and cool minimalism was recognizable to magazine readers and museumgoers worldwide, died Wednesday morning at his home in Manhattan. He was 92.” VIA NY TIMES  http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/08/arts/design/08penn.html?_r=1

This week, I’m shooting a fashion project / collaboration between Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas and JUMP shoewear.   They are launching a new luxury product that will be selling in Saks this month.  More details / photos to follow…   In the meantime, check out this crazy video of BEP on Oprah.  It starts out slow, but it gets good.

No camera? No problem.
You know…  I rarely photoshop any of my work. Not because I have anything against photoshop or photographers that love photoshop.   I just don’t like being front of a computer monitor.  And I love good old fashioned camera work and lighting.  “Do what you love.”, the key to happiness, right? That said though, photography’s always been a technology dependent art. And...

Art is a lie that reveals the truth.
The ‘Secret Photography’ of Taryn Simon There’s always 3 sides to a story.  Your side.  My side.  And the truth.   But you only know your side.  And I only know my side. And no one can ever really know the absolute truth. Digging around multiple sources of information will get you the closest approximation to the truth. And there in lies the value of documenting things...

FOR SALE : CANON 5D
The Canon 5D is a Full Frame Digital SLR, popular among professionals in all photography fields: Fashion, Advertising, Photojournalism, Weddings and Portraiture.  It’s my back up camera, it’s in excellent condition, and it takes beautiful photographs. There are some newer cameras on the market, specifically the 7D, 40D and of course the 5D mark ii. The mark ii is awesome, but...

Canon 5D mark ii VS Canon 7D
Spoof video with lots of photography humor.  Funny as hell if you’re a shooter. lol The waiting list for the Canon 5D mark ii is ridiculously long (about 6 months or more at any given camera store).  And I know plenty of people on the waiting lists just frothing at the mouth for it.  I can’t imagine waiting that long, paying almost $3,000, settling for 30p HD video… and when you...

DISTRICT 9
MY REVIEW : (WARNING MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD) District 9 is great. I loved the countless subtle visual details, innovative storytelling and nerdy humor. It’s not perfect by any means, but its a strong first feature film effort from visual effects artist turned promising film director Neill Blomkamp. The cinematography is mixed media using a variety of  image formats and cameras: 35mm...

MMMMMM.... GENIUS.
Michael Bay’s Transformers 2 broke box office records by generating $390.4 million worldwide in 5 days. Most of Bay’s films are unprecedented financial successes (Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, The Rock, Bad Boys 1 &2, Transformers, etc) despite being universally panned by film critics.   “The Island” is the one stand out film from Michael Bay that was well written, with...

SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE REVIEWS
There’s a lot of bad movies out right now. Most of them were written during the writer’s strike and are the products of underdeveloped scripts. But I’ve been watching ‘em all anyways, ‘cause I’m a sucker for a summer blockbuster. Here are my quick reviews: Star Trek: 9 out of 10 Damn Good.  Like… Indiana Jones original trilogy good.  Or seeing the first...

Goldspun Photo Shoot Preview
Been shooting all day.  Just got home.  Shooting again tomorrow morning in 8 hours. But before I sleep, here’s a quick preview of the pics. NOTE: These photos are straight out of my camera.  I don’t have time to color correct or photoshop the shots (have to wake up soon…). So the whites and blacks all need to get callobrated, etc.  But you get the idea. (Click on the images for...

Here is a basic example. Say...

Photography by NOOKA My good buddy, Matthew Waldman, invited me over this afternoon to check out what he’s been cooking up in his design laboratory.  Matthew is the CEO / creative director behind (the at times Kanye-blogged) design company named NOOKA. My agent, Jacqueline Bovaird, asked me this question the other day. Here is my answer: “The worst mistake you can commit as a photographer is to rely on your technique, rather than your taste. Great lighting and camera work are fundamentals, but in relying on them you risk producing repetitive work. You risk being a trend. Good photography requires vision. Read books. Attend concerts....
